H2O2-Preconditioned Umbilical Cord-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Ameliorate Liver Regeneration in Acute Liver Failure-Induced Mice
Introduction: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are suitable candidates for the treatment of liver diseases. However, their low survival rate limits their efficacy following transplantation. This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic potentials of H2O2-preconditioned umbilical cord-derived MSCs (UCMSCs) on acute liver failure (ALF) in mice. Methods: UCMSCs were pre-conditioned with different con...
متن کاملCyproheptadine-Induced Acute Liver Failure
We present the case of a 55-year-old white female with no history of liver or gastrointestinal disease, admitted with acute liver failure following a trial of cyproheptadine for appetite stimulation. The patient was managed with supportive care, symptomatic treatment, and discontinuation of cyproheptadine. To our knowledge, this is the first described case of cyproheptadine-induced acute liver ...
متن کاملHyperammonemic coma presenting as Hashimoto's encephalopathy.
Hyperammonemia is commonly encountered in active liver disease. Evaluation of patients having hyperammonemia with normal liver function is difficult. We present a case referred to us as undiagnosed hyperammonemic coma with normal liver function, who was subsequently diagnosed to have Hashimoto's encephalopathy. In patients with hyperammonemia without hepatic dysfunction, one must search for the...
متن کاملAmmonia Intoxication in Hepatic Coma
Blood ammonia nitrogen was determined in 36 cases of hepatic coma and 63 cases of liver disease. Significant elevations (PL 0.001) were noted in coma due to hepatitis and cirrhosis and the mortality rate was 89% and 9 1.3% respectively. Raised ammonia nitrogen in hepatic coma is a sign of grave prognosis (JPMA 34 : 9, 1984).
متن کاملLIVER Predictive value of arterial ammonia for complications and outcome in acute liver failure
Background and aim: In acute liver failure (ALF), the brain is exposed to high levels of ammonia. Human studies defining the clinical significance of ammonia in ALF are lacking. This prospective study evaluated the relationship of arterial ammonia levels at admission to complications and survival among patients with ALF. Methods: Eighty consecutive ALF patients admitted from March 2001 to Decem...
